The urgency of a gesture: free care for every child in Italy and Egypt. Supporting the mobile clinics of the Bambin Gesù Association of Cairo, blessed by Pope Francis
Too many children grow up without receiving care, a right denied by the distance from hospitals, by poverty, by indifference. Entire vulnerable communities are left behind, hostage to preventable diseases, malnutrition, silent suffering. For them, health is a distant mirage. These deficiencies are particularly serious in some peripheral Italian territories, such as in Egypt. The Bambino Gesù Association of Cairo, founded and led by Msgr. Yoannis Lazhi Gaid, historic secretary of Pope Francis who in recent years has followed and blessed the initiatives launched by the association and in particular the mobile clinics, offers answers to these needs.
Mobile pediatric units: our response
“Our doctors,” explains the Egyptian priest, “reach every child, wherever they are. With our mobile units, we bring free visits, rapid diagnoses and immediate care to the isolated villages of Egypt and the fragile communities of Italy, thanks to the precious support of the Bambino Gesù Pediatric Hospital and the Gemelli Polyclinic.”
In Italy, the unit will serve the vulnerable communities of Fondi, while in Egypt, the other unit will reach villages without health facilities.
“With €86,000 – explains Don Gaid – we can build two mobile clinics, equipping them with everything necessary:
Electrical, plumbing and air conditioning systems, to ensure that the unit can operate in any weather conditions and guarantee comfort and safety for doctors and patients;
Metal carpentry structure for the construction of the container and the protection of medical equipment;
Supply of essential medical equipment, including negatoscopes, examination lamps, children's beds and emergency instruments;
General equipment for internal environments to ensure a safe and hygienic environment for the treatment of children;
Training of healthcare personnel, so that each unit is managed professionally and with the right skills.
Furthermore, part of the funds will be used to cover transport and set-up costs, so as to ensure that the mobile unit arrives and operates without difficulty in the territory”.
A tangible impact on every life
The project will have a direct impact on the most vulnerable children in Italy and Egypt. The mobile clinics will offer free assistance to those who live in communities with limited access to care, such as in the Municipality of Fondi, and in villages without health facilities in Egypt. Thanks to these interventions, young patients will receive timely diagnoses and treatments, reducing the risk of serious illnesses and improving their quality of life.
